Voice and Data Cabling in Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia
DC Metro IT Help installs the cabling behind your phones and network: Cat6 drops for desks and VoIP phones, patch panels, demarc extensions and telecom room cleanup, tested and labeled.
Voice and data cabling services
- Data drops: Cat6 and Cat6A cable to desks, printers, access points and cameras.
- VoIP phone cabling: network drops for IP phones, usually powered from a PoE switch.
- Combined voice and data outlets: one wall plate with a jack for each.
- Legacy phone lines: extending or tidying analog lines that still serve fax, alarm or elevator phones.
- Demarc extensions: extending carrier circuits from the building demarc to your suite or closet.
- Patch panels and racks: clean terminations, cable management and labeling.
- Moves, adds and changes: new drops, relocations and dead-jack repairs.
- Cleanup: removing abandoned cable and documenting what stays.
Do I still need separate phone cabling?
Usually not. VoIP phones run over the same Cat6 network as your computers, and many phones pass the network through to the desk computer. We still run separate lines where you need them, for example for fax, alarm panels or elevator phones on analog service.
What does it cost?
Small jobs are billed for time on site at our standard labor rate of $75 per hour. Projects get a fixed written quote after an onsite survey, with the drop count and cable type. For typical market prices, see our Ethernet cost guide.

Frequently asked questions
What is voice and data cabling?
It is the cabling for your phones and network: typically Cat6 drops to each desk and device, terminated on patch panels in a network closet. With VoIP, phones and computers share the same network cabling.
Do VoIP phones need special cabling?
No. VoIP phones use standard Cat5e or Cat6 network cable. A PoE switch can power them, so they need no power adapter at the desk.
Can you work with our existing phone system or carrier?
Yes. We extend carrier circuits from the demarc, run cable for new phones, and follow instructions from your IT provider or carrier.
Do you test and label the cabling?
Yes. Every drop is tested and labeled at both ends, and the job closes with photos and a written completion report.
